The left-arm seamer’s deceptive slower balls and sharp cutters have made him one of the most unique bowlers in the T20 format.
Lahore signed the left-arm pacer on a direct deal worth INR 6.44 crore before the auction. He returns to the PSL for the first time since 2018, rejoining his former franchise. While many PSL teams prioritized batters in direct signings, Lahore opted for a specialist bowler.
Explaining the decision on a YouTube podcast, Samina Rana said:
“Fizz has created a special attraction for me. Given my admiration for bowling, Fizz was my number one choice. Strategically and budget-wise, he fit perfectly with us. The quality he possesses is rare in world cricket. He is a completely different kind of bowler. Even if you look at the BPL, he has his own unique variation, something no one else has. We tried to bring that X-factor into the team.”
Mustafizur will bolster a strong pace attack featuring Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf and Ubaid Shah. The squad also includes pace-bowling all-rounders Hussain Talat and Dasun Shanaka, while Sikandar Raza leads the spin department alongside Usama Mir and Gudakesh Motie.
Confident in his bowling unit, Rana emphasized the importance of bowlers in winning titles.
“I always say bowlers win you tournaments. Batters can win you matches, but bowlers win you tournaments,” she said.
With a formidable attack at their disposal, Lahore will hope Mustafizur’s variations once again prove decisive in their PSL campaign.
