Mustafizur was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for a record INR 9.20 crore at the IPL auction, the highest-ever price for a Bangladeshi cricketer. However, citing the “prevailing situation,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) later instructed that Mustafizur be excluded from the tournament.
The issue has since escalated, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) reportedly refusing to send its team to play a World Cup match in India in protest. The matter is now with the ICC, and a final decision is expected within the next couple of days.
Meanwhile, Mustafizur remains focused on the Bangladesh Premier League, where he has been delivering impressive performances for Rangpur Riders. Speaking to the media on Thursday, Arthur admitted the situation has been deeply frustrating.
“Fizz is a complete professional. He’s been outstanding for us, absolutely brilliant. We know the quality he has as a bowler. He’s as good as anyone in the world, if not better. He’s a great team man and a very humble guy, which makes him easy to work with,” Arthur said.
Arthur added that Mustafizur continues to give his best every day despite the setback.
“He comes to the ground every day and gives 100 percent. What has happened to him is truly disappointing. He earned a fantastic contract with Kolkata Knight Riders, INR 9.20 crore and now this situation is extremely frustrating.”
The Rangpur Riders coach also confirmed that he has spoken with Mustafizur about the issue.
“I did speak to him. It was a small conversation because of the language barrier, but we both understood each other. We addressed it quickly and then moved forward.”
Mustafizur’s exclusion from the IPL has sparked widespread debate, especially given his form and growing reputation as one of the world’s leading limited-overs bowlers.
