Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman has been dropped from the 2026 Indian Premier League amid rising geopolitical tensions between India and Bangladesh, marking a significant development in sub-continental cricket.

Following objections from sections of Indian cricket fans over the participation of Bangladeshi players, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) directed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release the experienced pacer from their squad.

The BCCI also permitted KKR to seek a replacement, a decision that could have wider implications for future bilateral cricket relations between the two neighbouring nations.

Earlier this week, Bangladesh's government also announced imposing a ban on the cash-rich league's coverage in the country.

In the aftermath of his exclusion from the IPL, Mustafizur Rahman has already registered for the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL), with several franchises now emerging as potential suitors for the left-arm pacer through direct signing.

The development has gained further traction after the PSL’s official social media page shared a post featuring Mustafizur, fuelling speculation about his likely participation in the league next season.

"Batters better shake carefully… its going to Fizz in the #NewEra. Mustafizur Rahman joins HBL PSL 11!" the league captioned the post.
