Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam Bulbul has returned to the country, putting an end to speculation that he would not come back after travelling to Australia.

Bulbul arrived in Dhaka from Sydney late on Saturday night on a Singapore Airlines flight and was back at the BCB office on Sunday, where he resumed his official duties.

His return comes at a time when the BCB has been dealing with growing unrest following the recent election, with domestic cricket activities also facing disruption due to tensions involving club organisers.

In recent weeks, rumours had circulated that Bulbul, who travelled to Australia before Ramadan to spend time with his family, might not return and could even lose his position as board president. His arrival in Dhaka has now effectively dismissed those claims.

The latest developments also come against the backdrop of a formal complaint lodged by nearly 50 club organisers, including former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal, who approached the National Sports Council (NSC) and challenged the legitimacy of the current board.

Following those allegations, the NSC formed a five-member independent inquiry committee to investigate whether there had been any irregularities or abuse of power in the BCB election.

Bulbul’s return is likely to ease at least some of the uncertainty surrounding the board, even as the broader political and administrative questions about the BCB remain unresolved.
