Former Bangladesh cricketers rolled back the years at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday, as BCB Red thrashed BCB Green by 123 runs in the traditional Independence Day exhibition match.

The annual fixture, organised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), once again turned the Home of Cricket into a festive reunion, with former stars reliving old memories.

Batting first, BCB Red piled up 213 for 5 in 20 overs, thanks to Nasiruddin Faruque’s 84 off 53, Mohammad Rafique’s 50 off 24, and useful cameos from Mohammad Ashraful (25) and Dollar Mahmud (27 off 9).

In reply, BCB Green were blown away by left-arm spin and folded for just 90. Shahriar Nafees top-scored with 33, but the chase never took off.

Elias Sunny starred with the ball, claiming 5 for 20, while Rafique capped off a brilliant all-round display with 4 for 18.

The match also carried symbolic value, with the Green team wearing jersey No. 26 and the Red team No. 71, both significant in Bangladesh’s history.
