Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne has admitted that the ongoing ODI series in Bangladesh has been far from ideal for the reigning world champions, as they prepare for the final match aiming to avoid a 3-0 whitewash.

Australia, who had not lost an ODI against Bangladesh in the past 21 years, have already conceded the series after defeats in the first two matches in Mirpur. A loss in the third and final ODI would hand them a first-ever whitewash against Bangladesh.

Despite the setback, Labuschagne said the team still wants to finish the series on a positive note.

“Yeah, if we look back, this is not an ideal or pleasing series for us. Every international match is an opportunity to build something for the next generation and also for the World Cup. That’s why every game matters, and we want to make sure we give our best and try to finish the series 2-1,” he said.

Australia are missing several senior players, including Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Travis Head, while captain Mitchell Marsh is also absent due to injury. However, Labuschagne rejected any suggestion of underestimating the touring squad.

“Every defeat is disappointing. You always play to win. That’s why we travel and spend so much time away from home, to play the game we love. Tomorrow we want to play good cricket and finish the series 2-1,” he added.

He further reflected on the result, saying the outcome remains painful regardless of the margin.

“At the end of the day, whether you lose 3-0 or 2-1, you still lose the series and that hurts the most. But we will make sure we are fully prepared for the final match tomorrow,” Labuschagne concluded.
