The ICC confirmed that Nahid committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
The article relates to the use of “language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”
In addition to the reprimand, one demerit point has been added to Nahid’s disciplinary record. It is the second offence of his international career within a 24-month period, taking his cumulative tally to two demerit points.
The incident took place during the 11th over of Australia’s innings on Tuesday. After dismissing Australian captain Josh Inglis, Nahid charged towards the departing batter and used inappropriate language that could have provoked an aggressive response, according to the ICC.
Nahid accepted responsibility for the offence and agreed to the sanction proposed by ICC match referee Prakash Bhatt of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. As a result, no formal hearing was required.
The charge was brought by on-field umpires Alex Wharf and Gazi Sohel, along with third umpire Ahsan Raza and fourth umpire Morshed Ali Khan.
Under ICC regulations, Level 1 offences carry a minimum sanction of an official reprimand and can result in a fine of up to 50 per cent of a player's match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
The disciplinary action comes despite an otherwise outstanding performance from Nahid, who starred with the ball against Australia and played a key role in Bangladesh’s victory in the series opener.
