Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana has earned high praise from Australia wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey after a standout performance in the second ODI at Mirpur, where the hosts once again defeated the visitors.

Bangladesh’s latest victory over Australia added another memorable chapter to their rare success against the six-time ODI world champions, with Mosaddek Hossain starring as the match-winner with an all-round performance.

However, it was Nahid who stole significant attention with a fiery spell of fast bowling.

The right-arm pacer finished with figures of 4 for 41, consistently troubling the Australian batters with pace, bounce and aggression. On another day, he could have claimed a five-wicket haul, as Australia struggled to come to terms with his hostile bowling.

Speaking after the match, Carey lauded the young Bangladesh quick and even suggested a future stint in Australia’s Big Bash League.

“I think he’s got pace and clearly has bounce. Australian wickets have bounce as well. There’s a lot to like about him, definitely,” Carey said. “He could come and play for the Adelaide Strikers if he wants.”

Carey admitted that while Australia were aware of Nahid’s pace through video analysis, the full impact of his bowling became evident only when facing him in match conditions.

“We knew about his pace, but you don’t fully understand it until you’re out there facing him. He’s a tall athlete and was getting good bounce off the wicket. He bowled really well.”

The Australian wicketkeeper also revealed that his team had studied Nahid’s highlights before the series but were still unable to counter his impact during the second spell.

“We watched his highlights and bowling videos. When he came back for his second spell, we knew what was coming, but we couldn’t stop him from influencing the game,” Carey added.

“You expect that kind of aggression from a fast bowler. Hopefully, we can adjust and find a way to manage him better in the remaining matches.”
