West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein humorously called on football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to “rescue” him after travel disruptions in the Middle East left the Caribbean team struggling to return home following their exit from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026.

Due to the escalating conflict in the region, international air travel has been heavily restricted, preventing the West Indies players from immediately flying back after their tournament campaign ended. Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Hosein jokingly wrote that he might be better off asking Ronaldo to send a plane to pick him up.

“At this point, I’m better off asking @Cristiano to send the plane and come rescue me,” Hosein posted.

His post surfaced while reports suggested that Cricket West Indies (CWI) was already working on arranging a charter flight for the squad.

Earlier, CWI confirmed that a special flight was being organized to bring the team back after they remained stranded for more than four days due to global airspace restrictions following US and Israeli strikes on Iran.

In a statement, CWI said that during a high-level discussion involving board officials, representatives from the International Cricket Council (ICC), team management, and players, it was confirmed that preparations for a charter flight were underway. The team’s departure from India was expected within the next 24 hours.

West Indies were eliminated from the tournament after suffering a five-wicket defeat to India at Eden Gardens.
