West Indies head coach Darren Sammy has expressed frustration after the team was left stranded in India following their elimination from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Taking to X on Wednesday, Sammy wrote, “I just wanna go home,” highlighting the uncertainty faced by players amid a major travel disruption.

The West Indies squad has been stuck in Kolkata after their Super Eight match against India national cricket team, as escalating tensions in West Asia have forced the closure of key airspaces, including routes through Dubai, a major global transit hub.

The shutdown has led to widespread flight cancellations, disrupting international travel plans.

The situation followed US and Israeli strikes on Iran and Tehran’s retaliation, which have significantly affected air traffic across the region.

The travel crisis has impacted sports events worldwide, with several competitions postponed and teams struggling to return home.

West Indies are not alone in the situation, the Zimbabwe national cricket team also faced similar difficulties in India but eventually managed to leave with assistance from the International Cricket Council.
