Pakistan are set to open their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign against the Netherlands on Saturday, but uncertainty over a potential clash with India has already cast a shadow over their group-stage plans.

The absence of Bangladesh from the tournament has further added to captain Salman Ali Agha’s disappointment.

When asked at the press conference about Bangladesh being removed from the tournament, Salman said: “Bangladeshis are our brothers; we are grateful for the support they have shown towards Pakistan. Unfortunately, they are not taking part in this tournament.”

Speaking about the uncertainty surrounding the proposed match against India, scheduled for February 15 in Sri Lanka, Pakistan’s T20 captain said the final call rests with the government.

Addressing a recent press conference ahead of the World Cup, the top-order batter stressed that the team would abide by whatever decision is taken at the state level.

“The decision on whether the match against India will be played lies with the government. There is still uncertainty over it, but we will follow whatever directive the government issues.”

Agha, however, struck an optimistic note about Pakistan’s form, highlighting the team’s improvement over the past six months and since the Asia Cup.

“In previous tournaments, we couldn’t meet the expectations of our supporters. This time, we are playing better cricket. Over the last six months and since the Asia Cup, we’ve shown consistency, and hopefully that will translate into strong performances,” he said.
