The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that an independent inquiry has found evidence of misconduct and harassment by the former Selector and Manager of the Women’s Team, Md Monjurul Islam, following allegations raised by ex-captain Jahanara Alam.

The findings relate to incidents during the tenure of a previous Board.

Upon learning of the allegations, the current Board immediately formed a five-member independent committee in November 2025 to ensure that the concerns were addressed fairly, transparently, and responsibly.

Justice Tariq Ul Hakim, former Judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, chaired the committee. Other members included Professor Dr Naima Huq, Barristers Muhammed Mustafizur Rahman Khan and Sarwat Siraj Shukla, and BCB Director Rubaba Dowla. The committee completed its investigation on 31 January 2026 and handed over the report to the President of BCB on 2 February 2026.

The committee examined four specific allegations made by Jahanara. While two allegations were not substantiated, the remaining two revealed prima facie evidence of inappropriate conduct by Md Monjurul Islam.

His behaviour was deemed inconsistent with professional standards and fell within the definition of misconduct and harassment under the Supreme Court guidelines.

In response, the BCB has engaged its Legal Team to address the findings in line with the Board’s zero-tolerance policy on harassment and misconduct. The Board emphasized its commitment to pursuing appropriate actions in accordance with its regulations and applicable law.

Additionally, the BCB has strengthened institutional safeguards by establishing a BCB Complaint Committee, headed by Rubaba Dowla, Chairperson of the Women’s Wing Committee.

The committee is tasked with setting up an independent complaint mechanism and implementing mandatory awareness training, ensuring a safe and respectful environment across Bangladesh cricket.
