The International Cricket Council has not entered into any discussions with Scotland about potentially replacing Bangladesh at next month’s men’s T20 World Cup, according to BBC Sport.

However, Scottish players would be prepared if the opportunity arose.

Bangladesh have informed the ICC that they are unwilling to travel to India for the tournament because of ongoing political tensions between the two nations and have asked for their fixtures to be relocated.

As the highest-ranked team not currently qualified, Scotland would be a natural candidate to take Bangladesh’s place if the ICC opted for a replacement.

However, the report says that the ICC has not approached Cricket Scotland regarding the situation, and Scottish officials have no plans to initiate contact themselves, citing respect for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

It has been reported that January 21 is the deadline for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to confirm its stance, but the BCB has clarified that no such date has been officially communicated.

In 2009, Zimbabwe pulled out of the T20 World Cup in England for political reasons and were replaced by Scotland as the next-best side from global qualifiers.
