The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has recently received a letter from the ICC’s security department highlighting potential security concerns Bangladesh could face if they travel to India for the tournament.
Speaking at a press conference at the BFF Bhaban today, Youth and Sports Adviser Professor Asif Nazrul said the letter mentioned three specific reasons why Bangladesh’s security risk could increase during the T20 World Cup in India.
One of those reasons, he revealed, is the inclusion of left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman in the World Cup squad. According to the adviser, the letter stated that Mustafizur’s presence in the team could further elevate security risks for the Bangladesh side.
Secondly, the ICC advised caution regarding spectators’ movement involving Bangladesh team jerseys and national flags.
Thirdly, the letter noted that as Bangladesh’s national elections draw closer, playing the T20 World Cup in India could become increasingly risky.
Asif Nazrul said, “The letter states that Bangladesh team’s security concerns will increase if three things happen. One is if Mustafizur is included in the Bangladesh squad. The second is if Bangladesh team supporters move around wearing the national team jersey. The third is that the closer the elections come, the greater the security risk for the Bangladesh team.”
