The statement made by Bangladesh’s Sports Adviser Asif Nazrul regarding three potential security concerns flagged by the ICC over Bangladesh’s participation in the T20 World Cup does not constitute a direct response from the ICC, Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Azad Majumder said today.

In a Facebook post, Azad Majumder clarified that the communication referred to by the sports adviser was, in fact, an internal inter-departmental note prepared by the ICC as part of its threat assessment related to the T20 World Cup in India.

He further stated that it was not a formal reply from the ICC to Bangladesh’s request to move the Bangladesh team’s World Cup matches outside India.

Earlier, at a press conference, Sports Adviser Asif Nazrul had said that officials responsible for security at the ICC had sent a letter outlining three situations under which Bangladesh’s security risk could increase.

“One is if Mustafizur is included in the Bangladesh team. The second is if supporters of the Bangladesh team move around wearing the national team jersey. And the third is that as the elections draw closer, the security risk for the Bangladesh team may increase,” Nazrul said.
