Bangladesh will not send its team to India to play in the T20 World Cup due to security concerns.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has demanded that the venues be shifted from India and the matches be hosted in Sri Lanka instead. On Sunday, the country’s top cricket body also sent a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Following Mustafizur Rahman’s exclusion from the IPL, the tough decision was taken at an emergency meeting on Sunday afternoon, attended by 17 BCB directors.

After being forced to leave KKR following the directives of the Indian board, Sports Adviser Asif Nazrul had issued a strong statement, saying, “Where the safety and playing assurance of a single cricketer cannot be guaranteed, the entire team cannot feel secure.”

Following this directive, the BCB formally proposed a venue change to the ICC.

Sri Lanka is co-hosting the 2026 T20 World Cup. Due to political tensions, all of Pakistan’s matches had already been scheduled in Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh has now made a similar demand. According to the original schedule, Bangladesh’s matches in Group C were set to be played in Kolkata and Mumbai.

Amid this, the BCB has formally announced the World Cup squad. Led by captain Litton Das and vice-captain Saif Hassan, the team still leaves the door open for top performers from the BPL.

Players like Najmul Hossain Shanto, Ripon Mondol, or Ali Islam could be considered. The BCB can make changes to the squad without giving any reason until January 31.
