Shoriful Islam etched his name into Bangladesh Premier League history with a moment of brilliance in the final, becoming the highest wicket-taker in a single BPL season at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday.

With one ball remaining in the innings and one wicket needed to break the record, Chattoram Royals' pacer produced the decisive breakthrough when Najmul Hossain Shanto mistimed a pull shot, allowing the left-arm pacer to complete a sharp return catch and seal the landmark achievement.

The dismissal took Shoriful to 26 wickets in the current Bangladesh Premier League season, the highest tally ever by a bowler in a single BPL edition. He achieved the milestone by claiming two wickets in the final at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Friday.

Shoriful surpassed the previous record held by Taskin Ahmed, who picked up 25 wickets in 12 matches for Durbar Rajshahi in the last edition.

Shoriful’s best bowling figures this season stand at five for nine, a fiery spell against Noakhali Express.

In the list of most wickets in a single BPL season, Shakib Al Hasan sits third, having taken 23 wickets in 15 innings for Dhaka Dynamites in 2019.
