Speculation surrounding the trophy of the 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has been intense even before the tournament began.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had earlier announced that a newly designed trophy would be introduced this season, but it remained unseen right up to the eve of the final.

The reveal has been kept as a surprise for fans. The diamond-studded special trophy will be displayed for the first time at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday, around an hour and a half before the final begins.

According to the final-day schedule, former Bangladesh women’s team captain Salma Khatun and former Under-19 captain Akbar Ali will arrive on the field by helicopter with the trophy at 4:45pm.

Salma led Bangladesh to the Women’s Asia Cup title in 2018, while Akbar captained the Under-19 side to World Cup glory in 2020.

The trophy, which reportedly cost around $25,000 to produce, will then be formally unveiled by Chattogram Royals captain Sheikh Mehedi Hasan and Rajshahi Warriors captain Najmul Hossain Shanto.

The trophy will tour the ground for about half an hour before being placed at a designated spot ahead of the toss, scheduled for 5:30pm.
