Sylhet Titans edged past Rangpur Riders by three wickets off the final ball to book their place in Qualifier 2 of the Bangladesh Premier League in Mirpur.

Chasing a modest target of 112, Sylhet held their nerve in a tense finish, with Chris Woakes sealing the win with a six off the last delivery.

Earlier, Rangpur Riders were rocked by a superb bowling display from Sylhet after being sent in to bat. Khaled Ahmed produced a match-defining spell, taking 4 for 14, while Woakes (2 for 15) and Nasum Ahmed (2 for 12) provided excellent support as the defending champions were restricted to 111 for 9 in 20 overs.

Rangpur lost early wickets in clusters, slumping to 29 for 4. Khushdil Shah’s brisk 30 off 19 balls and Mahmudullah Riyad’s composed 33 off 26 helped them recover slightly, but the innings never gained real momentum.

Sylhet’s chase was far from straightforward despite the low target. Early losses kept the pressure on, and Rangpur’s bowlers struck at regular intervals to drag the game deep.

Sam Billings top-scored with a cautious 29 off 40 balls, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz added 18, but wickets in the closing overs meant Sylhet needed seven runs from the final over.

With tension at its peak and the scores level off the last ball, Woakes stepped up and smashed a six to spark celebrations in the Sylhet camp, finishing on an unbeaten 10 off four balls.

Sylhet closed on 112 for 7, winning with no balls remaining and eliminating Rangpur from the tournament in dramatic fashion.
