Former Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah Riyad has embarked on a new journey in cricket after retiring from international duty, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) appointing him as a mentor for the Bangladesh Under-19 team.

The BCB has also confirmed the appointment of former national opener and ex-selector Hannan Sarkar as the new head coach of the youth side.

Mahmudullah's role will extend beyond the U-19 setup, as he is expected to work as a mentor across several teams under the board's Game Development programme.

The BCB is also planning to include the experienced all-rounder in the High Performance (HP) unit's upcoming tour of Australia. Former Bangladesh opener Imrul Kayes, who is currently based in Australia, is also being considered for a role in the coaching staff for that tour.

Meanwhile, Hannan, who has been actively involved in domestic coaching, will be required to prioritise his duties with the U-19 team whenever the youth side is in action.

Under existing BCB policy, contracted board coaches are permitted to work in either the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) or the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
