Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam Bulbul resumed work in person on Sunday after returning to the country following a break of nearly a month and a half.

On his first day back, he checked in on the national team’s fitness camp and also attended to other official responsibilities.

Speaking to some selected media [Samakal, Prothom Alo, etc.] yesterday, Bulbul chose not to go into detail when asked whether it had been a mistake for Bangladesh not to play in last month’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, though he admitted efforts had been made.

“I would rather not say much about that. But we tried very hard (to play in the World Cup). At the end of the day, I am also a cricketer,” Bulbul said.

“As for whether the investigation committee discussed the issue, I have no idea. I haven’t heard anything. I came to know about it through the newspapers.”

He also said the government had every right to investigate the matter, while stressing that the final squad decisions had been taken by those responsible for the national team setup.

“The government can certainly conduct an inquiry, and we will listen to what they say — we are listening,” he said.

Bulbul’s return comes at a challenging time for the board, with the Dhaka Premier League still stalled, an NSC investigation into the BCB election underway, and the recent resignations of directors Ishtiaque Sadeque and Amzad Hossain adding to the uncertainty.

“I do not see any crisis anywhere. The board is functioning normally under its own rules. The national team is playing, and the women’s team is preparing for the Sri Lanka series. Overall, all activities are continuing as usual. There is no crisis anywhere,” he said.
