The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has issued a show-cause notice to director M Najmul Islam over his controversial comments regarding cricketers, though he failed to respond within the stipulated 48-hour deadline.

According to a trusted BCB source, Najmul eventually submitted his written explanation after the deadline had passed.

Najmul recently came under heavy criticism after referring to former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal as an “Indian agent,” a remark that sparked widespread backlash. Although he was asked to tender a resignation over the comment, he did not comply.

Soon after, he made further controversial statements concerning players’ remuneration, performance, and other related issues.

The remarks triggered strong reactions from the players, who threatened to boycott all forms of cricket. Despite calls for his resignation before the start of a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match, Najmul remained in his position, resulting in a BPL fixture being abandoned on January 15.

Amid the growing crisis, the BCB removed Najmul from his role as chairman of the finance committee. Players welcomed the decision and subsequently withdrew their boycott.

Senior cricketers including Mohammad Mithun and Najmul Hossain Shanto later returned to cricket under certain conditions, one of which included a demand for a public apology from Najmul.

Earlier on the morning of January 15, the BCB formally served Najmul with a show-cause notice, instructing him to submit a written explanation by 11:00 am on January 17.

While he failed to meet the deadline, Najmul submitted his response a day later.
