Maaz Sadaqat narrowly missed a century as Pakistan thrashed Sri Lanka by 82 runs in the second T20I and also clinched the series in Rawalpindi on Sunday, taking a commanding victory after posting 215 for three.

Sadaqat smashed 96 off just 51 balls, including six fours and seven sixes, while captain Sahibzada Farhan contributed 73 from 44 deliveries to propel Pakistan to a formidable total of 215 for three.

In reply, Sri Lanka struggled to keep pace with the required run rate and finished on 133 for seven in their 20 overs, handing Pakistan a comprehensive victory.

Sadaqat dominated the latter stages of Pakistan’s innings after Farhan and Fakhar Zaman gave the hosts a strong start. Fakhar struck 22 off 17 balls before falling to Maheesh Theekshana with the score at 55.

Farhan and Sadaqat then combined to take control of the innings, adding 88 runs for the second wicket. Farhan departed for 73 in the 15th over, caught off Dasun Shanaka, but Sadaqat continued his assault on the Sri Lankan bowlers.

He struck seven sixes during his innings and finished just four runs short of a maiden T20I century. Hasan Nawaz added an unbeaten 19 off nine balls as Pakistan crossed the 200-run mark.

The Sri Lankan bowlers struggled to contain the hosts, with Theekshana, Eshan Malinga and Shanaka claiming one wicket apiece.

Chasing 216, Sri Lanka lost Lahiru Udara for five in the opening over. Sineth Jayawardena made 22, but Mohammad Imran removed both Jayawardena and captain Kusal Mendis to leave the visitors struggling at 35 for two.

Imran continued to trouble the Sri Lankan batting line-up, dismissing Sahan Arachchige for a duck to finish with impressive figures of three for 11 from four overs.

Kamindu Mendis scored 23, while Chamindu Wickramasinghe made 29 off 24 balls, but neither could produce the substantial partnership Sri Lanka needed to revive the chase.

Salman Mirza claimed two wickets, while Saim Ayub and Shadab Khan took one apiece to keep Sri Lanka under pressure.

Maheesh Theekshana offered some late resistance with an unbeaten 32 off 26 balls, but the target remained well beyond reach as Sri Lanka finished 82 runs short.
