Hasan Mahmud claimed a hat-trick and completed a five-wicket haul as Bangladesh bowled out Afghanistan for 240 in their first innings, securing a 106-run lead in the one-off Test.

Afghanistan lost their final six wickets for just 29 runs on the second morning after resuming the day at 211 for four. Ebadot Hossain sparked the collapse by dismissing wicketkeeper-batter Ikram Alikhil, who was bowled for 32 off 103 balls. His departure ended an 80-run partnership with Rahmat Shah.

Hasan then took centre stage, claiming three wickets in the final three deliveries of the 83rd over to complete Bangladesh’s first-ever hat-trick by a pace bowler in Test cricket.

He first bowled Ismat Alam before having Qais Ahmad caught behind. On the hat-trick delivery, Hasan trapped Ziaur Rahman lbw after captain Najmul Hossain Shanto successfully reviewed the on-field umpire’s decision.

Hasan became only the third Bangladesh bowler to take a Test hat-trick, joining Alok Kapali and Sohag Gazi. He continued his impressive spell by dismissing Yamin Ahmadzai, caught behind, to complete his five-wicket haul.

The achievement marked Hasan’s fourth five-wicket haul in Tests. He also reached the milestone of 50 Test wickets, becoming the third Bangladesh fast bowler to achieve the feat after Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Taskin Ahmed.

Rahmat was Afghanistan’s standout batter, scoring 109 in his first Test as captain. The century was his second against Bangladesh and fourth in Test cricket, but it could not prevent Afghanistan from conceding a substantial first-innings deficit.

Earlier, Bangladesh posted 346 in their first innings. After ending the opening day at a strong 221 for two, Bangladesh suffered a batting collapse, adding only 125 runs for their final eight wickets. Tanzid Hasan Tamim scored 83, Shadman Islam made 67 and Litton Das contributed 53.
