The BPL has long been plagued by controversy and organizational issues, with the BCB yet to establish it as a sustainable business model more than a decade after its launch. Earlier this year, BCB president Tamim Iqbal stated that the board would not stage the tournament unless it could secure quality franchise owners.
Hridoy, however, feels that not holding the league would hurt many domestic players who rely on the BPL as their primary source of income.
"It would definitely be a huge loss because there are many cricketers who only play in the BPL. It would affect them significantly," Hridoy told reporters while playing in the Lanka Premier League.
The right-hander acknowledged the BCB's concerns over recurring controversies and the lack of quality franchises but stressed that, as a professional cricketer, he wants the tournament to be held.
"At the same time, I understand the board's point of view. If quality franchises are not available and controversies continue every year, they have their reasons. But as a professional player, I want the BPL to take place."
Hridoy also believes the league plays a vital role in developing future talent, warning that a year without the BPL could deny many young players an important platform to showcase their abilities.
"Many players emerge through the BPL. If the league doesn't happen for a year, a lot of them will lose that opportunity. That could also be a big loss for Bangladesh cricket. So personally, I hope the BPL is held, even if my opinion doesn't carry much weight."
