Kolkata Knight Riders will be without Akash Deep for the entire IPL 2026 season after the pacer failed to recover from a lower-back stress injury, with an estimated three more months needed for rehabilitation.

The seamer has been undergoing recovery at the Board of Control for Cricket in India Centre of Excellence and did not join the team’s preparatory camp, further weakening KKR’s pace unit.

Injury concerns continue to mount, with Harshit Rana also likely to miss out, while Matheesha Pathirana is expected to be unavailable for part of the early phase of the tournament.

KKR had earlier signed Blessing Muzarabani as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman, but their fast-bowling depth remains stretched.

Current seam options include Vaibhav Arora, Umran Malik and Kartik Tyagi, with Cameron Green providing an allround option.

The franchise is now holding trials for an Indian pacer, with replacing Rana a key priority ahead of the new season.
