However, the franchise is still awaiting a response.
Rajshahi have officially emailed the GSL authorities and informed the BCB about their intention to participate. Confirming the matter to Cricfrenzy, head coach Hannan Sarkar said the management is now waiting for a reply from Guyana.
“Our side has done whatever communication or expression of interest was necessary. We have expressed our interest through email. At the same time, we have informed the cricket board. The rest we still do not know. But from Rajshahi Warriors’ side, we have 100 percent intention to participate in the GSL,” Hannan told Cricfrenzy.
“From our team’s side, we have completed the required communication with the GSL. But so far, very possibly, no response has come to us. Naturally, once I know, then perhaps we will start organizing the squad.”
The GSL, launched in 2024 in Guyana in the model of the now-defunct Champions League T20 (discontinued after 2014), features champion teams from various franchise leagues around the world.
The first two editions included five teams each, with Rangpur Riders representing Bangladesh on both occasions.
Rangpur, champions in the inaugural season, also reached the final last year but failed to qualify this time after missing out on the BPL title.
So far, three teams have confirmed participation in the upcoming GSL: Perth Scorchers (Big Bash League), Desert Vipers (ILT20), and hosts Guyana Amazon Warriors.
Rajshahi featured several overseas stars in the latest BPL season, including Jimmy Neesham, Kane Williamson, Binura Fernando, Sahibzada Farhan, Sandeep Lamichhane, Ryan Burl, and Muhammad Wasim.
Following news of their GSL interest, multiple foreign player agents have contacted the franchise. However, without official confirmation of participation, Rajshahi have not been able to proceed with negotiations.
“Foreign cricketers who played for Rajshahi already know that we are interested in playing the GSL. Their agents have knocked me, since I had been in contact with them. Naturally, the agents have shown interest, and there are some big names among them. They have informed me that the players would be free during that window,” Hannan said.
