Rangpur Riders confirmed their place in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) playoffs with a convincing 11-run victory over Dhaka Capitals in the 27th match of the tournament at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur, on Friday.

Batting first, Rangpur posted a strong total of 181 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs. Dawid Malan led the charge with a superb 78 off 49 balls, striking eight fours and four sixes.

He was well supported by Towhid Hridoy, who continued his fine form with an impressive 62 from 46 deliveries. Kyle Mayers added late impetus with a quick 24 off 16 balls as Rangpur finished with a healthy run rate of 9.05.

For Dhaka, Mohammad Saifuddin was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Taskin Ahmed and Maruf Mridha claimed one each. However, Dhaka struggled to contain Rangpur’s top order during the middle overs.

Chasing 182, Dhaka Capitals got off to a brisk start but lost wickets at regular intervals, which halted their momentum. Usman Khan scored a quick 31 off 18 balls, while captain Mohammad Mithun made 25.

The highlight of Dhaka’s innings was an unbeaten 58 off 30 balls from Saifuddin, who kept their hopes alive with a late flourish.

Dhaka’s chase was effectively derailed by an outstanding bowling spell from Nahid Rana, who finished with remarkable figures of 3 for 11 in four overs.

His disciplined pace bowling applied pressure throughout the middle overs. Faheem Ashraf chipped in with two wickets, while Mustafizur Rahman and Rakibul Hasan picked up one each.

Despite scoring 57 runs in the final five overs, Dhaka could only manage 170 for 7, falling short by 11 runs.
