Hobart Hurricanes held their nerve to defeat Melbourne Renegades by four wickets in a closely fought Big Bash League match in Hobart, chasing down 163 with one over to spare.

Batting first, Melbourne Renegades posted 162 for 9 in their 20 overs after a brisk start at the top. Josh Brown (26 off 13) and Tim Seifert (26 off 14) provided early momentum, while Oliver Peake added stability in the middle with 29 off 22 balls.

However, the Hurricanes bowlers struck regularly to prevent the Renegades from building big partnerships.

Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain was impressive, picking up 2 wickets for 34 runs in his four overs. He removed Mohammad Rizwan and Jake Fraser-McGurk, two key middle-order batters, at crucial stages to slow the scoring rate. Nathan Ellis led the attack with 3 for 30, earning him the Player of the Match award.

In reply, Hobart Hurricanes paced the chase well despite losing wickets at intervals. Tim Ward scored 30 off 26, while Beau Webster chipped in with 27 off 20.

After a brief wobble in the middle overs, Matthew Wade played a decisive knock, remaining unbeaten on 43 off just 20 balls, striking four sixes to swing the game in Hurricanes’ favour.

Adam Zampa kept Renegades in the contest with 3 for 25, but Wade’s late assault, supported by Rehan Ahmed (23 off 14), ensured Hurricanes crossed the line at 163 for 6 in 19 overs.

The win strengthened Hobart Hurricanes’ position near the top of the table, while the Renegades were left to reflect on missed chances despite a competitive total.

For Bangladesh fans, Rishad Hossain’s impactful spell stood out as another encouraging performance in the Big Bash League.
