Kayum Rashed, the owner of the franchise, has formally requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to take over the responsibility of running the franchise. A source from the BPL Governing Council confirmed the development to Cricfrenzy.
Citing the “current situation” as making it difficult to manage the team, Kayum submitted a written application to the BCB.
The application reportedly reached the board on the morning of December 25. Following this development, the BPL Governing Council is set to hold another meeting to discuss the future of the Chattogram franchise.
An official announcement regarding Chattogram Royals will be made after internal discussions are completed, the source added.
Earlier, concerns had been raised over alleged payment issues involving the Chattogram franchise.
However, later BCB confirmed that Royals have fully paid their franchise fee and have also deposited the required guarantee money with proper and verifiable financial documentation.
In the BPL players’ draft this season, Chattogram Royals secured Naim Sheikh for the highest price, signing him for BDT 11 million.
