With the country's only major franchise tournament unavailable, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is working on restructuring domestic competitions to help offset the impact.
BCB president Tamim Iqbal has hinted that a major announcement regarding a new tournament could come later this month.
Speaking to the media at a press conference in Mirpur on Thursday, Tamim said the board was close to finalising its plans.
“Please wait a little longer, you will be happy,” Tamim said. “The way we are planning and the way we are looking to organise this new tournament, I hope it will be something special. You will enjoy covering it as well. Give me a little more time. I hope we will be able to make a major announcement about the tournament around September 25 or 26.”
Bangladesh currently has only one domestic T20 competition, the NCL T20, which has been organised over the past two years exclusively for domestic cricketers.
However, the BCB is reportedly planning to give the competition a new dimension by introducing franchise involvement.
Tamim said work on the proposed tournament was nearly complete.
“I said earlier that around 60% of the work had been completed. Now, it is around 85% done,” he said.
“We are working on some rules and regulations and finalising how everything will operate. I hope everyone will benefit from it.”
Tamim believes the new competition could bring a fresh flavour to Bangladesh's domestic cricket and potentially attract interest from international players.
