Following his tenure as head of the BCB's ad hoc committee, Tamim now becomes the 18th and the youngest president in the board's history and the sixth elected president.
Fahim Sinha was also elected as the new Vice-President of the BCB.
The BCB Board of Directors election was held on Sunday at the board's headquarters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
In the first phase of the election, Tamim secured a seat on the board after receiving the highest number of votes in the Dhaka club category. He was subsequently elected BCB President unopposed by the newly elected directors.
A total of 16 candidates contested for 12 director positions in Category-2, the club category. Of the 76 eligible voters, 74 cast their ballots. Representing Old DOHS Sports Club as a councillor, former national team captain Tamim topped the polls with 73 votes to secure his place on the board.
Following the formation of the Board of Directors, the presidential election took place in the boardroom. As Tamim was the sole candidate for the position, no vote was required, and he was unanimously declared President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board for the upcoming term.
Alongside Tamim, 11 other candidates were elected as directors from Category-2. They are Saeed Ibrahim Ahmed (72 votes), Israfil Khasru (72), Masuduzzaman (70), Faisal Yasir (68), Fahim Sinha (66), Shahnian Tanim (66), Asif Rabbani (64), Mirza Yasir Abbas (63), Rafiqul Islam Babu (53), Dr. Sarkar Mahbub Ahmed Shamim (41) and Sakef Ahmed Salam (41).
The four unsuccessful candidates were Syed Borhanul Hossain Pappu (40 votes), Mohammad Amzad Hossain (32), Fayazur Rahman Mitu (23) and Major (Retd.) Imroz Ahmed (20).
Tamim was appointed head of the BCB's ad hoc committee on April 7 and was tasked with overseeing the board and conducting elections within three months.
Just two months later, he has presided over a successful election process and emerged as the board's new leader.
