There was strong speculation that Shakib Al Hasan would return to the national team during the recent Pakistan series, but that did not materialise, as the all-rounder has yet to resolve ongoing legal matters and return to the country.

Following the Bangladesh-Pakistan ODI series, uncertainty still surrounds his comeback. Bangladesh’s Youth and Sports Minister Aminul Haque said the government would take a flexible stance if Shakib returns after clearing the cases against him.

“Shakib’s matter is a state decision. If he personally faces the cases filed against him and returns after being proven innocent, we will be flexible,” Aminul told reporters.

Earlier, Nazmul Abedeen Fahim expressed optimism about Shakib’s return, saying recent developments suggest progress and that he could be back in the country soon.

However, Fahim was uncertain about Shakib’s availability for the upcoming New Zealand series in Bangladesh, scheduled for mid-April.

“I am hopeful he could return at any time. I want him back, as his presence would add a different dimension to the team,” he said.

He also noted that if Shakib resumes international cricket, decisions regarding his role, format, and duration will involve the selectors, team management, the player himself, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
