The National Sports Council has formed an independent investigation committee following allegations surrounding the Bangladesh Cricket Board elections.

The BCB has expressed concern over the move, warning that government involvement could risk potential action from the International Cricket Council.

Youth and Sports Adviser Aminul Haque said a final decision will be made after reviewing the investigation report and consulting with the ICC.

Alleging government interference in last year’s BCB elections, Tamim Iqbal and 21 other candidates withdrew from the race. Following the formation of the new board, club organisers boycotted cricket activities, disrupting domestic competitions, with the Dhaka Premier League yet to begin.

After the change in government, nearly 50 club organisers and divisional councillors, including Tamim Iqbal, submitted complaints to the National Sports Council.

In response, a five-member committee has been formed and asked to submit its report within 15 days after speaking with election commission officials, current board directors, complainants and district commissioners.

Aminul Haque said the allegations relate to pre-election interference and urged patience until the findings are revealed.

“It is better to avoid mudslinging and wait for what the investigation report reveals. The committee will speak to election officials, current board members and those who filed complaints,” he said.

The issue of councillor nominations has also drawn criticism. District commissioners had initially submitted councillor lists but were later asked to send them again following a letter from BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul.

“It is a visible fact that councillor lists were submitted twice. Claiming everything was correct would not be appropriate. Let the investigation report come, then I will speak with the ICC and inform the next steps,” Aminul added.

In a statement, the BCB said it has informally briefed the ICC about the probe and reiterated concerns that external interference could lead to sanctions. Aminul, however, insisted that all decisions will be taken after discussions with the ICC.

“I will take all decisions after speaking with the ICC,” he said.
