The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) issued a statement on Wednesday, expressing regret over recent remarks made by a Board member that sparked concern, clarifying that the comments do not reflect the organisation’s official stance or values.

In the press release, the BCB said any statements that may be considered inappropriate, offensive or hurtful are contrary to the Board’s principles and the standards expected of those serving Bangladesh cricket. The Board stressed that such remarks should not be seen as representing its policies or views.

The BCB further clarified that it does not endorse comments made by any director or Board member unless they are formally communicated through authorised channels, including the Board’s designated spokesperson or the Media and Communications Department. Statements made outside these platforms, the Board noted, are personal in nature.

Emphasising accountability, the BCB said it would take appropriate disciplinary action against anyone whose conduct or comments show disrespect towards cricketers or damage the reputation and integrity of Bangladesh cricket.

The Board also reaffirmed its unwavering support for all Bangladesh cricketers, past and present, stating that players remain central to the game’s development in the country. It highlighted that safeguarding players’ dignity, welfare and contributions continues to be a top priority.

The statement concluded with the BCB reiterating its commitment to professionalism, mutual respect and accountability at all levels, while pledging to protect the interests and well-being of its players.

The clarification follows comments earlier made by BCB finance committee chairman Najmul Islam as he emphasized that the board invests heavily in its players, often spending crores of taka to support their development and preparation. However, he stressed that the board does not ask for any return if the players fail to perform.
