Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) finance committee chairman M Najmul Islam has said that the board will not suffer any financial loss if Bangladesh do not participate in the ICC T20 World Cup.

Speaking to reporters, Najmul stated, “Whether Bangladesh play in the T20 World Cup or not, there is no profit or loss for the board. At least for this World Cup, the board’s finances are not affected.”

He acknowledged, however, that the players would be the ones to suffer if Bangladesh were absent from the tournament, as they would miss out on match fees and potential performance bonuses.

Responding to a question on whether the BCB would compensate players in such a scenario, Najmul said that match fees and awards are governed by ICC regulations and belong solely to the players.

“If players play, they earn match fees and can receive man-of-the-match awards or performance-based payments as per ICC rules. That is the players’ entitlement and has no direct connection with the board,” he said.

“If players fail to perform after the board has spent crores of taka on them, do we ask for that money back? No. So why look at it from only one side?”

Najmul further stressed that the board and the players are interdependent, using an analogy to explain their relationship.

“If there is no board, how will players exist? You cannot separate one from the other. They are inseparable parts of the same system,” he added.
