The 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) kicked off in Sylhet on Friday without the tournament trophy on display, an unusual sight for the league’s opening day.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), however, assured that a new and upgraded trophy will be unveiled soon.

BCB vice president Sakhawat Hossain explained the delay, saying, “The previous trophy was quite conventional. We decided to bring a new one, but it was not ready in time for the opener. Everything is being done under tight deadlines. We wanted to make a change, and now the new trophy will soon be in our hands.”

BCB Media Committee chairman Amzad Hussain revealed that the new trophy is diamond-studded and costs around $25,000.

“There has been a slight delay in receiving it, but Insha’Allah, it will arrive very soon,” he said, expressing confidence that fans will appreciate the new design.

Two identical trophies are being made, one for the champions and another to remain with the BCB.
