Bangladesh Women produced a disciplined all-round performance to defeat Pakistan Women by 23 runs in their Group 1 clash of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in Southampton on Saturday, strengthening their chances of reaching the knockout stage.

After being asked to bat, Bangladesh recovered from an early collapse to post a competitive 123 for 6 before their bowlers restricted Pakistan to 100 for 8 in 20 overs.

Bangladesh's innings got off to a disastrous start as they slipped to 13 for 3 inside the first five overs. Dilara Akter, Juairiya Ferdous and Sharmin Akhter all departed cheaply, leaving captain Nigar Sultana with the task of rebuilding the innings.

Nigar responded with a composed knock of 36 off 38 balls, striking five boundaries, while Sobhana Mostary added a valuable 22 from 19 deliveries.

The pair steadied the innings before Shorna Akter provided the late flourish Bangladesh desperately needed.

Shorna smashed an unbeaten 39 off just 22 balls, hitting five fours at a strike rate of 177.27, and shared an unbroken 31-run stand with Rabeya Khan to lift Bangladesh to 123 for 6.

Pakistan's chase began promisingly as Gull Feroza (23) and Muneeba Ali (25) guided them to 49 without loss. However, Bangladesh's bowlers triggered a dramatic collapse that completely shifted the momentum.

Left-arm spinner Nahida Akter led the charge with figures of 3 for 18, dismissing Muneeba, Gull and Pakistan captain Fatima Sana at crucial moments.

Sanjida Akter Meghla matched her impact by claiming 3 for 21, including the key wickets of Ayesha Zafar, Aliya Riaz and Saira Jabeen.

Rabeya Khan and Ritu Moni chipped in with a wicket apiece as Pakistan lost eight wickets for just 51 runs after their solid start.

Unable to recover from the middle-order collapse, they finished on 100 for 8, handing Bangladesh a convincing 23-run victory.
