Bangladesh suffered a heavy 59-run defeat against India in the ongoing Asia Cup at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.


Bangladesh incurred a batting debacle and were eventually skittled for 100-7 in 20 overs while chasing a 160-run target set by tournament favorites India.


Top-order made an ambitious start as skipper Nigar Sultana top-scored with 36 runs and Fargana Hoque scored 30 off 40 and Murshida Khatun played a knock of 21 runs.

Following their dismissals, Bangladesh lost the track of the game and kept losing wickets at regular intervals and managed to put 100 runs on the board falling behind by 59 runs.


Deepti Sharma, Shafali Verma picked up two wickets each for India. 


Shafali and Smriti Mandhana starred with the bat while batting first. Shafali scored 55 off 44 balls and Mandhana contributed with 47 runs as India posted 159 for 5 in 20 overs.


Jemimah Rodrigues scored 35 not out off 24 balls. Rumana Ahmed bagged three wickets and Salma Khatun took one.
