The fourth and final men’s cricket quarter-final was scheduled to begin at 10:30am Bangladesh time, but persistent rain and a waterlogged outfield forced the match to be abandoned around 90 minutes before the scheduled start.
The day’s first quarter-final between Sri Lanka and Nepal was also washed out for the same reason.
As a result, six consecutive men’s cricket matches at the Asian Games have now been abandoned due to rain, with five of those matches failing to even see a toss.
The heavy rain on Monday morning was so persistent that Bangladesh and Malaysia’s players did not even have to travel to the ground for their match.
With all four quarter-finals washed out, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan advanced to the semi-finals based on their ICC rankings.
Bangladesh will take on Pakistan in the first semi-final at Nisshin at 6:00am Bangladesh time on Thursday, while India will face Sri Lanka at 10:30am the same day.
The two semi-final winners will meet in the gold-medal match on Saturday, while the losing teams will contest the bronze medal.
If both semi-finals are also washed out, India and Pakistan will advance to the final based on their ICC rankings. India are ranked first, Pakistan sixth and Bangladesh eighth.
