Despite recent reports suggesting that the experienced batter would captain the side, Mithun has not been handed the leadership role.
Towhid Hridoy will instead lead Bangladesh A, with the squad also featuring Naim Sheikh, Jaker Ali Anik and Saif Hassan.
Mithun has been included in the A team’s ODI squad after a strong domestic season. The wicketkeeper-batter captained Dhaka Leopards in the latest Dhaka Premier League, scoring 321 runs in 11 matches at an average of 32.10, including a century and a half-century.
The 32-year-old has not played for Bangladesh since 2021, but a strong showing in South Africa could help revive his international prospects.
Mystery spinner Aliss Al Islam has also earned a recall after recovering from injury. He was the leading wicket-taker in the last DPL season, claiming 24 wickets for Prime Bank Cricket Club.
The squad also includes Hridoy, Naim, Jaker, Saif, Afif Hossain, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Rishad Hossain, Saifuddin and several young players.
Bangladesh A will play a three-match ODI series in South Africa on September 6, 9 and 12.
