Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana has finally returned to bowling after spending more than six weeks on the sidelines with an injury sustained during the tour of Zimbabwe.

The injury also forced him to miss Bangladesh’s recent tour of Australia.

Nahid began bowling at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Monday, marking an important step in his recovery.

He bowled in front of Bangladesh’s national pace bowling coach Talha Jubair, head coach Phil Simmons and physiotherapist Bayezul Islam.

The right-arm pacer was seen bowling with a white ball. His run-up was shorter than usual, while both his pace and intensity were deliberately kept low.

According to sources within the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s medical department, the reduced workload is part of the rehabilitation process. Nahid is currently in the eighth week of his recovery, and beginning bowling at this stage was part of the planned schedule.

He will initially continue bowling at a lower intensity, with the workload and intensity gradually increased in the coming days. The medical team will also closely monitor him for any signs of a setback during the process.

Despite returning to bowling, Nahid is still some way from making his comeback to international cricket.

Bangladesh are scheduled to travel to Japan at the end of September for the Asian Games, where the cricket competition will be played in the T20 format. Nahid is certain to miss the tournament.

The team management is instead looking at the possibility of bringing him back during Bangladesh’s away series against Afghanistan in October.
