Tanzid Hasan struck his maiden Test century, making a patient 101 off 197 balls, including eight fours and a six.
Tanzid shared a 102-run partnership with Najmul Hossain Shanto, who contributed an impressive 84 off 126 balls.
Their stand helped Bangladesh move well beyond Australia’s first-innings total.
Earlier, Mominul Haque made 49, while Mushfiqur Rahim added 36 before falling in the afternoon session.
Litton Das was dismissed for a duck, but Mehidy Hasan Miraz (32)* and Hasan Mahmud (13)* ensured Bangladesh finished the day strongly.
Australia’s bowlers were led by Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, who took two wickets each, while Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon claimed one apiece.
Bangladesh’s impressive batting display came after Hasan Mahmud’s career-best 6/55 had dismantled Australia’s first innings on Day 1, with Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain taking two wickets each.
With three wickets still in hand and a 153-run advantage, Bangladesh are firmly in the driving seat heading into the third day.
