Tamim Iqbal appointed ICC Franchise Cricket Committee chairman

The appointment was confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) following its annual board meetings, with Tamim set to oversee the governing body's work on franchise cricket, an area that has expanded rapidly in recent years.

The committee will focus on issues surrounding the growth of franchise leagues, including their impact on the international calendar, player welfare and the long-term sustainability of the global game.

Tamim will chair a committee that includes senior administrators from the sport's most powerful cricket nations, including BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, ECB chief executive Richard Gould, Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg, and Cricket Namibia president Dr. Rudy van Vuuren.

The ICC also confirmed that Tamim, as the newly elected BCB president, has been formally recognized as Bangladesh's Full Member Director on the ICC Board.

The board meeting also addressed membership matters involving several countries. Sri Lanka Cricket was told to restore an elected administration before regaining representation at ICC Board meetings, while France Cricket was placed on notice for failing to meet ICC membership requirements.

Cricket Canada remains suspended but was given conditions it must satisfy before its membership can be reinstated.

The Board also established a Franchise Leagues Committee, comprising Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh Cricket Board - Chair), Dr Rudie van Vuuren (Cricket Namibia), Devajit Saikia (BCCI), Richard Gould (England and Wales Cricket Board) and Todd Greenberg (Cricket Australia).
