The teams that have progressed to the Super Eights of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup have officially secured automatic qualification for the next edition of the tournament, set to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand in 2028.

Pakistan confirmed the Super Eights lineup with a victory over Namibia on Wednesday, advancing from Group A alongside India.

From the other groups, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe (Group B), the West Indies and England (Group C), and South Africa and New Zealand (Group D) progressed to the second stage of the 20-team competition.

As co-hosts of the 2028 tournament, Australia and New Zealand had already been granted automatic qualification. With the completion of the Super Eights stage, all eight second-round teams have now secured their places for 2028.

The list of 12 automatic qualifiers will be finalized by adding the next three highest-ranked teams in the International Cricket Council Men’s T20I Team Rankings as of March 9, the day after the scheduled final.

Bangladesh are set to benefit from this ranking-based qualification pathway. With no international fixtures scheduled before the cut-off date that could impact the standings, Bangladesh are poised to confirm their place in the 2028 tournament alongside Afghanistan and Ireland.

This means Bangladesh will once again feature in the global showpiece event without having to go through the regional qualifiers, a significant boost for the Tigers as they continue building towards the next World Cup cycle.

The remaining eight spots in the 20-team field will be determined through regional qualification tournaments, with allocations based on the competitive strength of each region.
