The two-year contract of national cricket team chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu is set to expire on February 28 as he is no longer interested in continuing in the role due to personal reasons and has informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) of his decision via email.

In this situation, the BCB is considering former national team captain Habibul Bashar as the next chief selector, a source confirmed the matter to Cricfrenzy.

Habibul Bashar previously served as a selector of the Bangladesh men’s national cricket team from 2016 until February 2024, completing an eight-year tenure. Before that, he was involved as a selector for the women’s national team.

He stepped down from the men’s selection panel in February 2024. Given his extensive experience, the board is keen to bring him back to the selection panel.

Currently, Bashar is serving as the Program Coordinator of the Game Development Committee at the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
