Bangladesh have decided not to travel to India for the tournament due to security concerns, while Pakistan’s participation remains uncertain.
Amid this backdrop, Afghanistan T20 captain Rashid Khan has shared his views on the growing intersection of politics and sport. Speaking to Sports Tak in an interview, Rashid stressed that politics should not be mixed with sports and said the true beauty of sport lies in its ability to unite people.
“I think there should be a sporting spirit,” Rashid said. “People often say that cricket and politics should not be mixed. If they shouldn’t be mixed, then they shouldn’t be. I don’t really know what more to say on this matter. Some responsible people are meant to take these decisions.”
Rashid also acknowledged the limitations he faces in commenting on such issues, noting that the situation does not directly involve his own country. “For me, this is not actually my country’s issue. If it were my country, then I could speak in that way,” he added.
Highlighting the positive impact of sports on Afghanistan, Rashid said cricket has given the country a global identity that no other platform could have provided. “We always say that sports bring unity and bring all countries together. That’s the joy of sports. What sports have done for Afghanistan, nothing else could have done.”
