Bangladesh’s participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup, set to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, remains in serious doubt after the International Cricket Council (ICC) refused to consider Bangladesh’s security concerns over travelling to India.

The ICC board has voted in favour of replacing Bangladesh with another team if they do not tour India for the tournament.

Amid the uncertainty, the interim government’s Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Nazrul is scheduled to hold an emergency meeting with national team players on Thursday.

All players have been instructed to be present at a five-star hotel in the capital at 3:00 pm. According to a source within the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), the players will be briefed on the evolving situation surrounding the World Cup, while their opinions will also be sought.

Previously, Bangladesh T20 captain Litton Das stated that players had not been consulted regarding the decision on World Cup participation.

Thursday’s meeting is expected to formally inform the players of the government’s stance and discuss possible steps to resolve the crisis.

The T20 World Cup is set to begin on 7 February, with all four of Bangladesh’s group-stage matches scheduled to be played in India.
