Billings had tried to bring Rishad on board last season but was unable to do so. Now, as Kent’s captain, he is hopeful of securing the Bangladesh player for the upcoming season.
Rishad first caught attention during the 2024 T20 World Cup with his impressive bowling and has since established himself as a regular performer for the national team.
Although he missed out on the IPL, Rishad played for Lahore Qalandars in last year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL). He was also scheduled to feature in the Big Bash League (BBL), but did not participate due to not receiving a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
This time, Rishad has opted to skip the BPL to play in the BBL, representing Hobart Hurricanes, where he has been turning heads with his leg-spin.
Billings, meanwhile, played for Sydney Thunder in the same tournament. After Sydney Thunder’s early exit from the group stage, Billings joined Sylhet Titans in the BPL. Before arriving in Dhaka, he spoke with Rishad and expressed his delight at seeing him play in Bangladesh.
In an interview with Channel 24, Billings shared the story, saying, “I’ve spoken to Rishad. He’s very happy that I came to play in the BPL.” He also praised Rishad as a cricketer and revealed a lesser-known anecdote from last year.
Kent had reached out to Rishad for the Vitality Blast previously, but due to national team commitments and other reasons, he could not participate.
Now, as Kent’s captain, Billings remains optimistic about including him next season. “He’s an exceptional cricketer. I tried to get him last time, but it didn’t happen for some reason. This year, as Kent’s captain, I hope he will be able to play,” he said.
