Bangladesh must get everything right when they face Afghanistan next in their Asia Cup encounter. While the opponents continue to move forward, Bangladesh seem to be heading in the opposite direction.

The Tigers already struggle to score freely in the middle overs, and now they will be up against Afghanistan’s potent spin attack. Still, spin-bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed expressed his confidence in the players ahead of the crucial clash.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Mushtaq said, “I am concerned about the middle overs. Yes, we are coming off three consecutive series wins, but we are well aware of the current situation. We believe that if our batters can post 160–170 runs, our bowlers are more than capable of restricting the opposition.”

He also underlined the coaches’ responsibility in reviving the team’s winning mentality.

“As coaches, it is our duty to bring back that winning mindset in the players. We are working on exactly that, so that they can enjoy the game without being weighed down by pressure.”

But in T20 cricket, statistics are hardly in Bangladesh’s favor. Against Afghanistan, the Tigers have managed just five wins in 12 encounters, losing the other seven.

That’s why, heading into their first-ever meeting in Abu Dhabi, Bangladesh must look for inspiration in the way of the phoenix rising once more from the ashes to claim glory.
